Article 6 section 3 of the Constitution makes it crystal clear that no religious test for office shall ever be required, end of story. Keep religion and politics seperate, I say this as a pro-life person.

You need to do a bit more research on the Puritans. They did indeed establish an oppressive church run government. Can you say, "Salem witch trials?"

A Separation is just that it goes both ways. We need protection against religious zealots just like religion needs protection from corrupt politicians. The constitution only mentions Religion to state that Congress shall make no law establishing or abridging religion and states the individuals freedom of his or her religion and their being no religious test to hold office. We all need to stop reading our own views into the constitution. It can't get any clearer.

That fact is religion in the logical sense is all BS I believe we were created by some god like power but religion is merely fiction so should not play a role in anything besides at home or church. This is not to be argued with being it is the best logical sense period. If not prove your religion or zip shut and close your mouth.

You believe that Christianity has leaked into the government???? Hahahah. The founders were Christian. 98 percent of Presidents were Christian. Christianity is "leaking out" of the government because it was there to begin with. People like you are leaking into the government, not the other way around (when I say people like you I mean ignorant fools)

Jack Kennedy was a devout Catholic, yet made it perfectly clear that he was against mixing religion and politics. He said that a person's personal faith should neither hinder nor help him in seeking government appointments, etc.

Here's the problem Raychee--WHO's creator are you referring to, yours or your Muslim neighbor, or how about those who believe that Space Aliens are God(s) or Satanists who feel that Lucifer is the one true God? You cannot change another's faith or belief--read history and you will understand why the founding fathers based our constitution on the separation. Religion should have no part in politics!

The "erected wall" doesn't prevent anyone from worshiping however they want, so it doesn't infringe on your rights. It protects the rights of those who would be harmed by the government institutionalizing any particular religion over another. So it's not about the one it's about the many.
You better go back and read what our founders said about God and their beliefs. They Prayed and knew God wanted them to protect individual freedoms.
Benjamin Franklin, offered his famous appeal for harmony and conciliation,an appeal for God's intervention.

And their individual beliefs still have no bearing, because they wrote protections from even having their beliefs becoming an institutionalized state organ. They were able to keep the two separate, you know, the way they meant it!

jackj1957 - Saying it three times doesn't make it any more effective. You're right, the constitution says the congress shall make no law bit. And I think us arguing over the meaning of his words is much more effective than historians doing the same. Face it. Not going to see eye to eye over this. If you have to fight this hard for your religion, it is no longer self sustaining and should fold on out. Give it time...

PS just because some of our nation's leaders believed in a god, doesn't mean anything. Especially when they established rules that prohibited religious intermingling with legislation.
And yes, SeventhHanyou, CONGRESS, you know the elected officials who make our laws. I know they don't have the impact your god's laws have, but at least one body can back their legislation up. Oh and to be clear, I'm talking about CONGRESS. Not god. Both rule by fear, but one is at least semi-effective.
