At the EMO in Hannover, I ran into a cool demonstration of non-contact heating. Huettinger, a German manufacturer of induction heating generators showed this ice cube running red-hot.

  • LOOKS LIKE BREAD.

  • would it be safe to touch the ice?

  • well its not ice OR it is with a light underneath...

  • Yes, inductive heating tools are a reality. Every steel foundry I've ever been in has inductive coils right before the roll-forming process to heat the steel.

I'm curious, though, about this video. The cube in the center doesn't "melt down" or reduce in size... so I'm wondering if maybe it's made of clear gelatin, or something. Still a cool video, though.
