Native (Cholo) Peruvian protest artist El Cholo (José Miranda Valladares) talks about each painting in this free exhibition and the inspiration behind his art at a free event to mark the reopening of the Bank of Ideas, following the New Year break. Prior to being a protest artist way back in 1984 ,age 24, José Miranda Valladares became the United Left mayor of San Martìn de Porres, Lima, Peru, a post he was democratically elected and re-eleceted to for 6 years (SMP is a municipal district of Lima, Peru with a population of over 500,000).
