I only have this one tape to test my Sony TC-123, but it's a great piece of Americana. A letter fom an army nurse in Vietnam. I'll post side 2 as a response. If you recognise this and know the person who made this recording please feel free to leave a comment here or a message on my channel.

  • Thank you for posting this audio letter. At one time I was thinking of going around my father's (Korean Veteran) retirement community and interviewing any former members of the armed forces. You just gave me an idea with the audio letter in that it might be easier to do ... than say a series of questions.

  • @jully716 Wow... I'm honored. Let me know how that turns out,

    Thanks!

  • you should record these tapes to the computer and burn them to CDS and preserve them or make some mp3s. does this unit have an audio output jack on it?

  • It does, but it also has buzzing issues (bad filter capacitor). I'm happy with the audio I got from the speaker. It gives it an honest old quality.

  • I have this same model reel-to-reel!! Got it from a garage sale for $10. And guess what, it was originally used for THE SAME PURPOSE! Messeges from Vietnam! It's a nice recorder, indeed.

  • Cool.

  • theres something magic and.. fascinating in voices from tapes..

  • @1973Drummer I too do not care for all the digital. I still use cassettes for music. record from cd to cassette. May sound crazy. I just do not like how easy it is for all computer data or even those junk drives to stop working and you have no back up for your audio or recordings. all gone....

  • I was with my family in Japan back in 1965-1968 and we had one just like this with the red cover and recorded audio tapes to send home to family in New England. My dad bought recorders like this for both sets of parents so we could communicate that way. I have the recordings on cassette and now plan to put on cd. memories

  • Amazing. I worry that in the age of digital stuff like this isn't being saved. Accidental history. No more found film or found audio. Digital data doesn't hold up as well over time.

  • Very interesting
