A complete version of the text of Deuteronomy 6:4-9:

(4) Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
(5) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
(6) These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
(7) Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
(8) Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
(9) Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

The vocal arrangement is the product of Suzanne Haik-Vantoura's research to recreate the music of the bible as it was originally written. For more information about SHV and her work, visit rakkav's channel:

I added the kinnor accompaniment because it was the kinnor that led me to this music, and because it helps keep me honest on pitch. The kinnor is tuned D E F G# A B C D E F, low to high.

Thanks to Klezfiddle1 for introducing me to the kinnor through his videos, without which I would not have been inspired to build mine.

Klezfiddle1 (aka Michael Levy) is about to release an album of ancient Jewish music played on the kinnor. Listen to some of the samples he has on his channel, and if you like it, buy it. I think efforts like his to reclaim and rediscover an instrument that has all but disappeared should be supported. (and the music is great, too)

  • Thank you for taking the time to do this! (I operate both the "rakkav" and "teamim" channels, just so the reader knows -- and both have SHV's original recording of this text.)

Would you consider building and shipping another lyre like that to me -- and if so, for how much? I am no woodworker. The Pakistani-made lyre that Klezfiddle1 uses (I used to have one of those too) is an extremely poor acoustical instrument, although (as his videos show) it "mics" well.

  • Many thanks! I will have to gather materials and get some time to work on it, but I would certainly consider it. Once I see what the material costs are, I will contact you privately and see if we can make arrangements.

  • This is AWESOME, Dude! Fantastic to hear what the Kinnor must have sounded like when actually used to accompany the voice, as it originally did over 2000 years ago, in the Temple of Jerusalem! Thanks SO much for also plugging my debut album of solo Kinnor music -all being well, it should be available by late September/early October...WATCH THIS SPACE!!!

  • Well, I hope it is a fair example of what it may have sounded like. I find the music very compelling.

I am eagerly awaiting your release.
