There is no better way to spend 2-3 hours 'off the beaten path' then making a visit to the St Martin Canal. The only tourists you will see are on the passing canal tour boats. Head to Metro Louis Blanc and walk one block to the canal. Bear right, walk down to the canal and 'voila' your are practically a Parisian.
Locals flock to the area to watch the canal boats go through the locks, picnic, cavort, read a good book and sunbathe. We brown bagged a great picnic lunch and took it all in. Want more? We walked the canal to the Metro Goncourt and went one stop to Metro Belleville. On exiting one is immersed into intersecting Chinese, Jewish and Muslims cultures. Their colorful shops and restaurants abound. Great market there on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Thanks for this. Very pretty!
