@jhenry291 The tool at 0.49 is just a machete. The other tool... I don't know what they are called in Ghana, but woodcarvers here in the US call them "crooked knives." There are some smaller versions available from Sweden at a reasonable price.

I would have thought to have used hot coals to burn the hole through the drum, then come back with chisel in hand to carve the rest of it.

We don't have any one in Ireland that we could recommend. We do have some tuning tutorials on our site, as well as a DVD that teaches you how to re-head a djembe. Thanks!
