The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library opens a major exhibit "The Flames Caught Us" Cherry Mine 1909 on November 1, 2009 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Cherry Mine Disaster. On November 13, 1909, a fire broke out at the St. Paul Coal mine in Cherry, Illinois that claimed the lives of 259 men and boys. The exhibit is free to the public running through March 31, 2010 at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.
Using this for a presentation in my English class on Wednesday. =D

Congrats to all at Springfield for an excellent show. Hopefully this work will awaken many people to the price that was paid for coal on 13th Nov. 1909.

Many, many thanks to Dennis Suttles, Jennifer Tirey, and everyone at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library for helping bring this historic disaster to a wider audience. Bravo!
