Lyrics:

They say everything can be replaced
Yet every distance is not near
So I remember every face
Of every man who put me here

I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Anyday now, anyday now
I shall be released

They say every man needs protection
They say every man must fall
Yet I swear I see my reflection
Someplace so high above this wall

I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Anyday now, anyday now
I shall be released

Now yonder stands a man who in this lonely crowd
He's a man who swears he's not to blame
All day long I hear him shout so loud
Crying out that he was framed

I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Anyday now, anyday now
I shall be released

  • I've met Aaron and his 2 brothers at their club in New Orleans several times. One of my all time favorite singers.

  • I agree. One of the most beautiful, unique voices out there.

  • What a voice! What artistry.... I had never ever heard of Aaron Neville.. and now I will never forget this voice. All thanks to looking around Youtube for decent versions of "I Shall Be Released". This, Perhaps The Version of All Versions? Beautiful, and true, and deep, and honest ... I feel that precisely when he goes highest, kind of a falsetto, near the end, it comes out of having gone down to the bare bone marrow of the song. How can I get this on a proper CD? I would, I really would.

  • R.I.P. Troy Davis -- Time to End the Death Penalty-- Since his conviction in 1991 of killing officer McPhail in 1989, 7 of the 9 witnesses have come forward to recant their testimony with allegations that one of the witnesses was the actual killer. Davis had an unprecedented amount of support that included almost 1 million signatures calling for his clemency including former President Jimmy Carter and Pope Benedict XVI. He was executed September 21, 2011

  • The song caught my attention when it played at the end a 'Without A Trace' episode..Haunting,, beautiful song, a different kind of voice, very stunning in its power....jm
