God's Tenants is a full-length documentary in progress that tells the powerful story of Neusa, a single mother who is among the millions of families living in poverty in Brazil. Like many others in her community, Neusa and her children are forced to live in a squatter settlement near a landfill with no running water, formal electricity or infrastructure.
God's Tenants documents Neusa's daily struggles to raise a family, and provide food for her children by working odd jobs at a time when unemployment is extremely high. To make things worse, Neusa's 7 year-old-daughter, Karine, goes missing. It is then that Neusa fears that she has lost her daughter to the streets forever, as it is common for street children in Brazil to fall prey to the underground economy of prostitution, drugs and violence.
Our goal is to share Neusa's amazing story of survival and perseverance with the rest of the world. By sharing this story we hope to start an ongoing dialogue in order to collectively come up with solutions and take action.
