Compact in size, but delivering the very best in performance, the DR-9080C is the latest innovation from Canon. * High Speed Scanning : Scans up to 90 pages per minute in Black & White or Grayscale Mode and 50ppm in Colour Mode. Advanced on-board JPEG compression technology and new CIS line sensors are used to boost scanning speed * Higher Image Quality : Advanced text enhancement function makes text and numbers more legible against shaded backgrounds which improves image quality. Wrinkled documents do not produce shades on the scanned image due to dual light configuration within the sensor and a platen roller that holds the document firmly against the sensor * Simple Staple Detection : The scanners can automatically detect staples and stop the scanning * Double-feed Detection : Ultrasonic double-feed detector senses the gap between two overlapping pages and stops the scanner when two or more pages are fed at the same time * Performance Boosting Options : An invaluable tool for document tracking, it uses an ink jet cartridge to print a variety of text messages on the front of each scanned document, Endorses bank cheques and other documents by printing up to 8-digit numbers and stamps on the back of each scanned document, Counts the number of pages scanned through the scanner and Add-on software module enables the driver to recognise barcode

All doc scanners will go slower above 300 dpi. The industry is based around 200/300 dpi.

What is the speed at 400dpi grayscale? I heard it slows down significantly at 400 dpi, and the DR-X10C manual shows a 50% speed loss at 400 dpi, but the 9080 manual doesn't list speeds at 400dpi at all, which makes me think it must be awfully slow at that resolution.

It has a top AND bottom contact style CCD. That's how it can scan duplex and color at the same speed as simplex. Great machine with very little maintenance. The feed/sep rollers come as a user replaceable kit.

I would really appreciate it if you could test it for me with a couple of dozen ultra-thin A3 sheets. Unfortunately where I am from there are no Canon Showrooms or I wouldn't be bothering you. I am saving money for buying one of these babies but first I've got to make sure it does the work we need. We have to scan really thin paper (so thin, almost transparent) and the MF6580 I have doesn't handle it that well (no full duplexing) or that fast.

Most of our scanners are onsite at various locations where I am not. I have ordered a new DR7580, which is about 20% slower. We are testing it out the week of April 28th. If you are not in a hurry I could test it for you. Usually you can test these at Canon Showroom as well.
