I feel like EVERYONE is missing the point to this video. These protestors are trying to say why should we support the olympics on Native land, STOLEN native land. WHY? sure they represented the first nations people well during the opening ceremony. Kudo's to the Olympics there. But, the point to this video is WHY? should we be in support to them having the olympics on stolen native land?
It's a national problem, but it wasn't until it become a national embarrassment due to the Olympics that I've seen anything of any significance start to occur. That's right, I've actually noticed some positives taking place in the neighborhood, although there is still a LONG way to go.
But I can't stand it when people like you use issues like the DTES or Native rights to make some argument about consumerism and the Olympics.
The DTES is it's own issue that needs to be addressed with commitment from government at both the Federal and Provincial level. For too long now it's been viewed as Vancouver's problem, when in reality it's been a magnet of misfortune, attracting people from across this Country. Every province is represented, and less than 5% of them are born and raised in Vancouver
I worked at Heatley and Alexander for 8 years, right in the heart of the Downtown Eastside. I live five minutes away on foot. I know more about these people and their problems then you do living in your secluded mansion in Toronto.
Let me ask: how many times have you marched in Toronto demanding the Federal government take action in the DTES? Prior to the Olympics, what have you done?
I would like to express that FURBE tells mistruths (lies) I don't even know what a HDMI cable is LOL FURBE could you explain to the rest of us where did the olympic poverty group get funding for all the t-shirts - web sites - posters and ads while I am working to raise funds for Haiti . where children are dying. YES I will be in Toronto March 8th with several gospel groups working to raise nds.what do you do besides complain ??????? YOU LACK credibiltiy .... While the rest of us work
My dear friend I have been to Cyprus, Turkey, the Middle East, Africa and many other countries with DWB I don't own High definition TV and I still live in the house I raise my children in .... YOU DON"T KNOW ME .... I DO MORE THA N YOU TO HELP THE HELPLESS
@foxdefense You're such a hypocrite. I see one of your favorite videos is a CBC Marketplace video about HDMI cables.
You talk about poverty and housing, and yet you live a life of excess that includes high definition tv in your little enclave. Thousands of dollars spent on entertainment and leisure that you thought was more important than the cause of homelessness or poverty.
80% of the world has no water and housing, and what are you doing about it? Nothing it would seem.
Lets embrace our stolen native land. U guys are making canada look bad
