This is a clip from the Who Asked You? Internet radio show and podcast.
May is National Masturbation Month. It was 1994 when then US Surgeon General, Joycelyn Elders was making a speech to the United Nations on World AIDS Day. She was asked by an audience member whether or not she thought masturbation was a deterrent for early sexual activity. She responded that she thought it was part of human sexuality and that it should be included in sex education. Elders shortly after was forced to resign as Surgeon General and a San Francisco-based sex toy company called "Good Vibrations" decided to protest her premature departure by designating May as a month to talk about and offer support and advice for dating mother palm and her five daughters. And so, the National Month of Masturbation was born.
