Windows 2000 had the same 'cool install' when it came out, because the hardware at the time was 'known'... As time went by, new hardware came out that 2000 had problems with because the drivers were 3rd party and buggy.
It wont be different with Win7. Just wait until new hardware comes out after the Win7 release and see if your experience is the same.

"2.75gb" that isn't correct. 32-bit windows has a 32-bit address space, so could theoretically address up to 4gb of ram. this is usually lower though because the OS needs to address other parts of the system, and other memory locations, such as the ram on a graphics card. This is why people get different amounts of ram depending on their configuration.
