I ain't no Trekky but like most people watched Star Trek every week on TV as a kid/adult. Once Nimmoy and Shatner had gone I personally found the movies ordinary if not boring until the incredible movie came along. The casting was nothing short of brilliant. Big thumbs up from me.
@heavyarms01h You are quite right: I, myself am an example of that! I was quite ignorant of Star Trek before I've (by accident, really...) watched the 2009 version. I searched for more information (both on the Star Trek universe AND the characters, especially Spock, who still remains my favourite ST character), have watched a couple of episodes of the very first season, and will not stop until I've watched ALL seasons plus the films. I am sure I'm not the only one, as you've already pointed out.
It was a charged statement for Leonard to say that the movie was the "resurrection of Star Trek" but in some way, it's true. Many people I knew over my 20 years of being a Trekkie, especially kids, felt "Star Trek" was something "inaccessible" or "went over their heads." Then I stayed on Internet networks after the 2009 film came out and was pleasantly surprised and so grateful to realize that the film recruited a whole new generation of young fans who are now watching TOS and getting into it!
@Deep1Purple2 Definitely. ZQ is kind of cute, I'm not denying that fact, but nobody, I repeat, NOBODY, can hold a candle to Leonard Nimoy's outright gorgeousness. <33333
