Just prior to this, I listened to 7 or 8 more or less painfully off renditions of Guajiras. I found this one to be a welcome relief.
I enjoy the alternation between the parts that are more or less belted out, and the parts that are sung in more of a conversational sort of tone.
She seems to me to have a good grasp on - if not utter mastery of - how to make those transitions with relative grace.

This "palo" is one of the hardest to find -done well. It can easily sound "corny" and "flamenco-opera-esque" if not done exceptionally well. In my humble opinion, Srta. Marquez sings this perfectly! Wonderfully sung...communicating the happiness and sadness of the song....all at once. Oleeee y Oleeeee!!!!
