Sony Walkman MP3 Player Review

The Sony Walkman MP3 Player is an excellent alternative to the ubiquitous iPod. After having traveled with this particular player (NWZ-S616F) for the last year I've come to prefer the Walkman over Apple's reigning champ for several reasons (see below). If you're looking for an affordable, durable MP3/video player that's high value, give this a look.

Features:
- Plug-and-play functionality. No need to install software to move files into or out of the player
- 320x240 display on a 1.8 screen (2 screen on new model)
- plays MP3, WMA DRM and non-DRM audio files, and MPEG 4 files (the newer version also plays AAC-LC 3, L-PCM, AVC, and WMV)
- Excellent battery life listed at 33 hours audio or 8 hours video viewing (newer version is 45 hours audio)
- FM Radio receiver with 30 presets
- Clean, tactile button design allows you to use player without having to look at the screen

Things that need improvement:
- I wish the headphone jack came out of the bottom of the player (like the iPod) instead of the top
- 8Gb model is highest memory available (Note: There is a version of the Walkman that goes up to 16Gb but it strangely has no FM radio function.)

thanks for the great video. How do you upload the videos? when I plug in I go to windows media player, which is fine to drag and drop music, but not quite sure how to upload videos ??????

Hi, thanks for watching.

I usually right click "My Computer" and the Walkman should show up as a separate hard drive. Then you can just drag and drop.

i have the same exact one in red and ive always had troub;e charging it! i have bought already two usb cords to charge and nothing! it only charges when it wants to!!its really fusttrating! any advice of what i can do to charge it? i really like it but thats my only problem!

I know it's a hassle but you might want to try contacting sony customer service.

Start by emailing then follow up with calling their 800-number if you don't get a response then. Have the model number and possible your time of purchase handy to make things easier.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how I put videos on it? Which programs to use to convert the files and step by step walkthrough. I've been trying for hours to put two videos on my MP3 player and yet I cant. Someone please help!

The Walkman will only play .mp4 video files (the same files for an ipod).

Google "Free YouTube to Ipod and PSP Converter"

Download the program and then convert the video to ipod mp4 format (NOT psp mp4). They should play in the Walkman then.

I've had the sony Walkman for 2years and kicks the ipod players in the face! the sound quality is soooo much better and it uses mp3s so no itune and $burning :)
