A collection of clips taken from 8 American Noir Films, between the years 1941 to 1955. The clips chosen all focus on guns, for an overall look at the role of guns play in Film Noir.

Movies used:

The Maltese Falcon ('41)
Gilda ('46)
The Big Sleep ('46)
The Killers ('46)
Out of the Past ('47)
The Third Man ('49)
Gun Crazy ('49)
Kiss Me Deadly ('55)

This compilation is for a final project in my Film Noir class, and I plan to rotoscope all of these clips into a 3 minute animation as the surreal extension of guns in film noir.

  • i started seeing film noir movies andi just seem to become addicted... so far ive seen the third man, the big sleep maltese falcon double indemnity in a lonely place touch of evil out of the past... which film should i watch next?

  • @BornToDie90 dead on arrival or the killer(s) or kiss me deadly

  • That last clip, at 2:39 where the lady opens the box, it reminds me of Pulp Fiction where Vince opens the suitcase and its glowing.

    Very cool compilation

  • Yup, Tarantino stole it from the 1955 film noir 'Kiss Me Deadly'

  • Great list, and great editing! However, I would argue (as many would) that "The Third Man" is a British film, not an American one.

  • Mas por favor.

  • @DannyBoyMRPG

Sure... But wouldn't a hitman not take the chances of hitting a vital spot near the groin area and instead double-cap somebody?

I mean, I understand noir movies couldn't show too much violence, but at least aim it at his heart, which is in fact a guaranteed kill most of the time.

  • @BLACKIESBOY Probably hit a vital point

  • @BornToDie90 you may see : detour, the lady from shanghai, gilda, they drive by night, the big heat, house by the river, the dark corner, panic in south street, shanghai gesture, leave her to heaven...

check the website : film noir of the week...

  • Sunset Blvd. is the most epic in my opinion, and my favorite

  • THIS IS EXCELLENT!!!

I never understood how getting shot in the lower torso/groin area was a kill shot
