Sorry it's so insanely long!
I didn't expect it to end up being 10 minutes, so I'm going to put in some handy points here so you don't have to watch it all if you don't want to :)
Also if anyone wants the tutorial links I used to get Sony Vegas 11 and all my New Blue FX then just ask - they're both great tutorials and work beautifully!

First off - thanks to all my subscribers. I appreciate you all, you make me happy :)
Secondly - SEND ME A MESSAGE containing any effect ideas - I'm willing to make a second video like this one seeing as you guys never really got a say in what I put in here haha

-SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOLE MEP PART-

0:44 - My Layout
- Just showing you around my editing projects so that you don't get confused when I mention certain things :)

1:30 - Two Colours/Split Screen
- Copy your clip onto the track above and use masking to cut half of the clip (or a pattern or shape)
- Make sure each track has a different colouring.
- Black & white vs colour is a simple yet effective technique.

2:23 - Two Colours on MOVING shapes
- Same as above
- Mask has several points where the mask moves around
-- REMEMBER: you can always make it wider as it goes along, creating an "opening" mask

2:54 - PRE RENDERING
- A delicious handy hint for laggy videos
- SHIFT + B
- Make sure your Dynamic RAM Preview is set between 700MB - 1000MB
-- Go to: Options - Preferences - Video (tab)

3:43 - Two Colours using the Cookie Cutter Circle
- Same as two colours
- Cookie Cutter Circle
- "Animate" - make end larger than beginning

3:57 - Simple Zoom to create flow
- Zoom In/Out on every clip to create "flow"
- Keep it subtle

5:14 - Two Colours (Substitute for no masking)
- Simple transition - BARN DOOR
- Looks better when the second clip is different colouring (eg. Black & White)

-KUZCO: TONIGHT TONIGHT MEP PART-

6:00 - TEXT Underneath Something
- Three tracks
- Copied track on top and bottom - top track is masked
- Text layer in between two clips

-ALADDIN/JASMINE: BROKEN MEP PART-

7:03 - Columns (Good for piano or pizzicato guitar)
- Mask rectangle
- Use pan/crop to place it where you want

7:55 - Split Up Rectangle
- Mask rectangles - different parts each track
- Have the same copied clip on tracks above it

8:20 - How to avoid fail masks
- Right click on clip
- Properties
- Disable Resample

8:56 - Final Hints and Tips

THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!!!

  • Okay, this is probably a pretty stupid question, but in 1:58-2:00, you pulled part of the mask over so it was a diagonal - how in the world did you do that?? 'Cause whenever I've tried dragging my mask to make more room like that, it deforms and becomes all rounded edges and stuff. :( BTW - I LOVE YOU!!! I didn't know about the Shift + B and had been rendering sections of my vids - ugh, that took sooo much time! - up until you showed me that, and now I happily use it all the time! ;)

  • @TaraSilverstream

Um I think you just click it once, make sure you don't double click on the point? But yeah and if all points are selected, just right click and say deselct > all, then you should be able to just click on points individually :)

And ikr - my non-editing boyfriend had actually taught me the shift b thing!!! Like, what?! :D

But yeah, it's all called "simple" editing effects for a reason - super easy xD

You're welcome love - thanks for your comments!! xxx

  • @MissDoonaQueen Haha - I got it! In experimenting with what you said, it turns out you hold ctrl and then click and pull the point, and then the line moves. Soo happy now! :D Anyways, thanks for that! :DD

Haha, /yes/ - that can be soo irking, lol - and then you want to kick yourself for not figuring it out sooner ;D though I'm glad you an awesome boyfriend ;DDD

Thanks for all your explaining - it's much appreciated!!! <3

  • Oh, and I had always wondered about how you did 7:25-7:3:38, well, specifically how you'd positioned the clips, lol - I should have know it was as easy it was that easy! Thanks so much for this tutorial!

  • @excaliber009

Well that's all I had to learn haha I taught myself almost everything o.O

  • @MissDoonaQueen Your explaining helps me learn it better than pressing random buttons and hoping things work out right.

  • @excaliber009

Just PM me if you have any more questions - sorry I'm so rubbish at explaining things x

  • @MissDoonaQueen Okay, I got it (I think). Thanks for all your help with this, if I have more questions, I'll know who to ask.

Umm let's try this way: do your first shape in your first keyframe (the one that's automagically there) then make another keyframe at the end of your clip's timeline and adjust the shape to how you want it to end :)
