Tombstone Junction was an amusement park right next door to the Cumberland Falls State Park in McCreary Co. Kentucky from the 1960's until 1991 when a series of fires leveled the park and shut it down forever.
What made this small park unique was the Tombstone Junction Railroad a Standard Gauge fully operational steam train which took visitors on a 2 1/2 mile ride through the Kentucky woods. The train faced super sharp curves and steep grades ranging from 4 to 8%!!
Here is part 1 of an engineers view around the entire loop. In this part the train will leave the train station at Tombstone Junction and travel down grade to an area where the train was robbed during each trip. You'll former Union Railroad #77 a 90 ton ALCO 0-6-0 as she tackles the sharp curves of the railroads loop track.
The engineer here was William Johnson who operated on the TJRR for many years and would later run steam at several tourist railroads and mainline excursions.
