NHL talented veteran yet enigmatic forward Alex Kovalev of the Pittsburgh Penguins, formerly of the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and the New York Rangers, during the pre-game warm-up / practice at ScotiaBank Place in Ottawa on March 15, 2011 (Penguins @ Senators 3/15/11). Nicknamed Kovy, AK-27 and l'Artiste, the native from Togliatti, USSR (now Russia), was selected 15th overall in the 1st round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. Known for his amazing stick handling skills and wrist shot, Kovy was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for Jozef Balej and a 2004 2nd round draft pick. In August 2005, Kovalev re-signed with Montreal to a four-year contract. In March 2006, after receiving a high stick from nemesis Darcy Tucker, Kovalev nailed Tucker with a strong forearm hit to his ugly face, which led to a brawl. After a tumultuous 2-year stint with the Ottawa Senators, Kovy was traded to Pittsburgh for a second stint with the team on his birthday, February 24, 2011. Nice birthday gift! Kovalev was booed by Senators every time he touched the puck during the game.
