Bill Hicks Interview BBC2 1992

Sometimes fate shines on you. When searching through an old tape for unrelated footage, Goatherder found a BBC2 'mockumentary' about how far it was acceptable to push the limits in comedy. It wasn't very funny, but it did feature a short piece of Bill's act with the shows hosts in the audience and, more importantly, an interview with the man himself.

This was part of a strand of programs about comedy that BBC2 put out in 1992 called 'Funny Business'. This particular episode was called 'A Question Of Taste'.

The funny thing is that, even at his most "shocking", Bill Hicks was fairly tame in terms of content - no racism, misogyny, homophobia or anything like that, his sexual material wasn't anywhere near as graphic as someone like Doug Stanhope, and he didn't even swear all that often.

What shocked people I guess was that he was challenging their (often very narrow) perceptions.

Bill HIcks is as articulate as he is funy. Very well executed humour and a sharp outlook on life which causes other people to think even if they disagree with his viewpoints/stance. This is to be commended people, someone who not only thinks, but makes other people think. Think about that next time you watch the x-factor or some other mind-numbing garbage on your tv set.
