I think the phrase, "it works for me" is fine when discussing what one has done to reach his or her own goal. To me the phrase may cover more than just the process, it also covers the situation one is in. For example one may say they have scheduling restraints or budget restraints, so one may say,"I know this isn't the optimal way to lose weight or gain muscle, but do to the circumstances at this time, this works for me". Just a thought, not hatin, just discussing.
