From what I've have seen, Dead space: extraction is a prequel to this one, I think you play as one of the colonist, and it happens just when things start to go wrong on the colony.

Alright so you Probably already know this, but the other Dead Space game is a prequel. Its kinda like that house of the dead arcade game. just aim and shoot.
