SPC Jose A. Torre Jr. hailed from Garden Grove, California. He enlisted in the United States Army as a Combat Engineer on May 6, 2008. Following initial training at Fort Leonard Wood, he was assigned to Charlie Company, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley in September 2008. Less than one month later, he deployed with the Dagger Brigade in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for twelve months. He redeployed to Fort Riley in October 2009 and spent the next thirteen months preparing for the Brigade's current mission in support of Operation New Dawn. Upon arrival into Iraq for his second combat deployment, he was attached to 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery.

SPC Torre was killed in action on Saturday, January 15, 2011 while conducting route clearance operations east of Baghdad, Iraq.

SPC Torre's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, and Driver Mechanic Badge for Wheeled Vehicles. He has been posthumously awarded the Broze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Army good Conduct Medal.

SPC Torre is survived by his father, Jose Antonio Torre Sr., mother, Candida Nalani Torre, sister, Laura Lynn Torre, and brother, Robert Rodriguez.
