Heavenly - Temptations

1990 is a 1973 album by The Temptations for the Gordy (Motown) label, their final LP written and produced by Norman Whitfield.

The LP was the center of a number of problems. The Temptations were dissatisfied with Whitfield's socially conscious message tracks, which were by now failing commercially, and desired to get back to singing ballads. Whitfield relented some here, placing message tracks such as "1990" and "Ain't No Justice" alongside love songs such as "Heavenly" and "You've Got My Soul on Fire".

I still love the original Temptations. They were the ones that I used to see in person at the Regal in Chicago. But you know, it's as if this song finally defined where the Temptations were always supposed to go. It's beautiful, haunting, one of the greatest. the sad thing is that as this song was climbing up the charts, the radio stations pulled the record because of snub to them (radio DJ's) when someone accepted an award on behalf of them. This is one of Richard Streets defining moments as a Temptation!
