good list. the dead deserves it, they led the pack for 30 solid years and acheived sucess w/o top tens or selling out. they proved all you need is love!

The first Hippies were Flower Children. Their pow-wow was 1967's Monterey Pop Festival. The Heads' climax was Woodstock. The music was labled Psychedelic Rock by the press. To see the difference between Flower Children and Heads, watch videos of these events. I much prefer the atmosphere of Monterey Pop. It featured the US debuts of The Who and Jimi Hendrix, plus little-known Big Brother, featuring Janis Joplin.

Any list of 1967-era rock has to include Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".

Well I love all the bands you listed so I have no problem. Certainly wouldn't put The Dead at the No. 1 spot though. As a matter of fact, as "hippie" as they were, they still wouldn't make my Top 10. One of my all time favorite hippie bands is MOBY GRAPE. So good, and so underrated. You NEED to get their first album.

I'd put in the Mama's and Papa's and leave out the greatful dead..Pretty good list
