Step 1: Steam the Milk

Pour ice cold milk into the stainless steel pitcher. Insert the thermometer into the milk and position the pitcher under the steam wand so that the wand is just under the top of the milk. Keeping the wand near the top makes more foam, which is exactly what you want for this particular kind of coffee drink. Steam the milk while keeping the wand just under the surface.

Step 2: Pull Your Espresso Shot

If you have never done this, you might want to take a look at the"How To Make Espresso" first. Follow the directions for your machine to pull a single shot of espresso. The ideal extraction time is anywhere between 18 to 22 seconds.

You may also choose to have a double shot of espresso. Remember to be careful as the machine has hot areas. Do not burn yourself. Before adding the foam, you may add sugar or the sweetener of your choice.

Step 3: Add the Foam

Take your spoon and the pitcher of steamed foamy milk. Using your spoon, carefully drop the foamed milk onto the top of the espresso, a spoon at a time until the surface has a nice layer of "spotted" froth on it. Enjoy your homemade cafe macchiato.

Step 4: Variations

If your espresso machine does not have a steam wand, you can heat the milk in a double boiler on the stove slowly, being careful not to burn it, while using a milk frother with a plunger or an electric milk mixer to create the froth. Alternatively, you can use a Moka Pot or Handpresso to pull your shot.

  • It's a massive joke.. I actually feel a little more hate for modern culture after reading comments about this guys coffee making standards. It's just coffee... And before anyone goes into " Well it is a business and the customer has to be happy with their drink" no..... It is just coffee

  • Burnt milk, dirty basket, over dosed and uneven tamp, backwards technique. Man I couldn't have done it more wrong if I tried.

  • ROFL WHAT A JOKE

  • 64 people liked learning how to make a foamy unsanitary macchiatto.

  • It seems like he is mixing parts of a Caffe Macchiato and a Latte Macchiato.

And yes, this guy is a bit messy and unsanitary. His entire workstation is dirty...and how the h*ll did he dose so messy. That is the most horrible dosing I've ever seen. No container for the loose grounds or anything. Even his tamping tool is dirty. What the %^$#@!&????? The place should be called Flying Coffee Grounds instead of Flying Saucers.

  • @EclypseOfApocalypse I was confused too. A Macchiato is basically a smaller, stronger cappuccino. Not the most popular in the US since we love our milk, but in Europe they tend to use less milk in their espresso drinks.

  • your technique needs a lot of work. wasteful, unpolished and unsanitary.

  • That would taste SO bad.

  • wtf are u doing >???!

  • It really bugged me that you didn't clean the steam wand straight after use, that's my pet hate. You didn't wipe out your coffee basket and Macchiato means 'Marked' in Italian referring to you marking the espresso with the milk not the other way around.

  • more resource required.horrible to watch.soon as i saw the dirty basket being filled i knew this was gonna turn out bad. sorry dude.

  • HAHA.. Damn dude i'm sorry but you really fucked this one up. Not only did you make a machiatto wrong but your espresso looked like shit. Try again man.

  • he made a piccalo latte lol fail

  • Sweet Jesus! How did this video get 58 likes ITS COMPLETELY WRONG! I just started making them at home and I know how wong this is! 1. Never spoon your foam 2. Clean your basket properly 3. Don't por milk in a macchiato!!! Wrong Wrong Wrong!!!

  • TOTALY WRONG MAN! WHAT THE HECK? THE CAFFE LATTE VID IS A LATTE MACCIHIATO, AND THIS ESPRESSO MACCIHATO IS MORE OF A SMALLER VERSION OF THE LATTE MAC. THE ESPRESSO MACCIHATO ORGINALY HAD ESPRESSO. WITH A LAYER OF MILK TO MARK THE COFFEE.. NOT BEFORE.. THE MILK IS ADDED FOLLOWED BY THE SHOTS. SERIOUSLY UR KNOWLEDGE IS TOTALY CORRUPTED

  • "You have spilled my Macchiato!" - Jean-Gerrard

  • Hey dude, I don't mean to sound like an ass, but your temping's not straight, you haven't cleaned your basket properly, you've left your basket head on with the coffee inside it (it burns the grinds) and you're topping up the drink with hot milk. There should be just a little bit of foam on top. It's like a double espresso with foam on top.

  • @EclypseOfApocalypse

a true cappuccino is 1oz. espresso with 5 oz. of steamed milk.milk foam should be no more than half inch thick.

add either choco powder to milk or choco sauce to espresso to make a mocha. those 3 ingredients to taste.

treat the americano like a true cap, but replacing the milk with hot water. adjust ingredients to taste.

macchiato is a shot of espresso with a dollop of milk foam in a demitasse. although you could steam about 5 ounces of milk and free pour into demitasse

  • thank you so much for showing how to make the perfect macchiato........ cant wait to try it myself...................

  • @EclypseOfApocalypse there's more milk in the macchiato than in the latte, that's the difference

  • I am trying to learn how to make coffee for my work, will someone help me out? How I am seeing it in simplicity is that a Latte= Espresso + Steamed milk

Cappuccino = Espresso +steamed milk and foam

Mocha = Espresso + Hot chocolate

    Americano = Espresso + Water

Macchiatio = Espresso + steamed milk (How is it different then a latte?)

Is there anything that I am forgetting? Also, any tips on steaming, and how much milk beginning, so that you can get as much or as little foam/milk as you need.

  • hes terrible im 17 and honestly iv never made one but it just looks terrible...

he cant even temp it evenly :\

  • hahahah fo' 3minutes i make 37 machiatos...and lmaoooo this is not even a machiato

  • Im a italian barista and i don't wont to sound too arrogant but this is completely wrong, when i've got time i'll show you what is a real macchiato

  • The line he said at 3:29 made me hate all man kind of how mad that made me.
