"Marni Nixon who?" you may ask. Possessor of one of Hollywood's finest voices, yet many are unaware that the beautiful voices seeming to issue from Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady", Deborah Kerr in "The King and I" and "An Affair to Remember", and Natalie Wood in "West Side Story" are all one voice; Marni Nixon's voice. She was and is no stranger to Broadway, but the only time she actually appeared in a movie was in "The Sound of Music", where she is briefly seen as a nun in the song "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?"
Growing up, I had always admired what I believed to be Audrey Hepburn's voice in "My Fair Lady" and Deborah Kerr's voice in "The King and I". So, you can imagine my surprise at finding those voices belonged to one woman. She never even received screen credit for the movies that she dubbed.
I hope that this small tribute will give proper recognition to Ms. Nixon, as she is incredibly talented and has not received nearly enough credit for her work.

  • @SneakyGuy55 Ah! Okay. I will have to listen for those notes!

  • @ClassicDamsel It was Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn sang all of her songs in her films save for one, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” from the 1953 film “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.” Marni Nixon did some of the high notes for MM in that song.

  • @ClassicDamsel You're welcome. You "do good work," as they say. :-) You are educating people about Marni Nixon, a person unknown to most people even those who are fans of films like "West Side Story" and "My Fair Lady." Here are two videos showing Natalie singing in WSS outtakes (use Google)... watch?v=jHsLOJ35-0c and watch?v=G9J5hSxC4Y8 Natalie could sing but she was no Marni Nixon. Nobody was.

  • @azw596 Oh, thank you ever so much!!! I really appreciate (not to mention I'm honored!) by your words! You're welcome and thanks for commenting!
