But the quality of the color and sound is excellent, and these are intense scenes. Notice how objective and firm, but polite the cop is.  Would that they are all still like that.

I agree. It makes the movie much more interesting and watchable. Also notable are the subtle innuendos of the characters reactions and glances; especially Gene's.
