Now that you know... PSA Telly Award Winner

The "Now that you know..." HIV Awareness Campaign was created by Garry Bowie to bring participation and advocacy in HIV education & prevention among the youth.

With over 50% of all new HIV infections occurring among those ages 15 to 24, and with half not even aware of their infection, something had to be done to make an impact. When the youth in the local community were asked if they could name one campaign about HIV, not a single campaign could be recalled by any of the youth participants.

This campaign ran on the Charter Cable system in Los Angeles, San Gabriel, Long Beach, Malibu and Inland Empire areas from May 2009 to June 27, 2009 (National HIV Testing Day). The campaign spawned a weekly internet webcast (a blogcast) to an international audience hosted by local teens and youth. The successful campaign resulted in many young teens, adolescents and young adults to take a moment, pause and think about HIV. Some outcomes were produced amazing results.

SpotU provides an avenue for youth and young adults to communicate in a safe environment about all topics relating to health and wellness regarding HIV and STI's. The program as a result of this low-cost campaign is now producing the next phase of "linkage to service" through innovative use of social networking, blogs, tech-savvy youth oriented applications, webcasting and video to prevent new HIV infections among the youth.
