larry,
the point that has started our discussion was regeneration of the man is based solely on the work of the Holy Spirit. Water is only for cleansing of the outside, on God can turn a heart of stone into flesh. I do not posit one does not have or should not get baptized. I only state it is an act of faith, obedience, love and affirmation to be baptized.
my hope is in my regeneration not how wet I got.
(I still got wet!)

It is vital to see who the Holy Spirit affected in the only two times Holy Spirit fell on people in the new testament and for what reason... Who was amazed when the Spirit fell on the apostles in Acts 2: The people hearing the messages were amazed. Who was amazed when it fell on Cornelius.... The apostles. The reason for this was that the gospel would now be preached to all not just Jews.
Thank you for your insightful comment. Both instances were God making a point to those who were present about the Gospel.

they were baptized with the Holy Spirit before they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. if they had died before water baptism then they would be in paradise with Christ.
I am a little confused, had salvation not come to them by faith.
Then Peter said, 47"Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have." 48So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

Your premise that the Holy Spirit can only come upon the righteous and affect their behavior is erroneous. In 1 Samuel 19, Saul went out with murderous intent toward David. The Lord had already left Saul(1Sam15:28;16:14). While he was going to murder David because of his intense jealousy the text says in vs. 23 that the "Spirit of God came upon him also, so that he went along prophesying continually..." He then continued for a day and night. Saul was not righteous, God was making a point.
