Mika has a very dry sense of humor- look at his various interviews and the 'classic comments' video. Sounds like one of his typical gags.

@Zscheesus Well you're right, it might be just his Finnish speaking style (its slow even for Finnish). As he uses the phrases used in Finnish, speaks slowly and tends to think long what he says. This just makes it look like he would speak really bad English, while he might just (totally) lack the English speaking style.

Mika was an excellent driver but he speaks so bad English that it makes me cry.

It made me laugh not because of how long it took him just the classic Mika style, get asked complicated question, wait a bit then just say "Yes."

I don't think they know Mika well enough to understand that this is how he is in interviews. It's half-deliberate and is one of the things that makes him such a favourite and such a character. I miss Mika and hope he returns to F1 in some capacity in the near future.
