At about 11:00 in the morning I saw a weird glowing column of light hovering above ski run called Qhiggy's Meadow in Whistler Canada. It was very concentrated and VERY bright. I had to ski along a rocky traverse to get closer but it was just so interesting I had to continue. As I got closer, the height of the column continued to shrink. Once I skied into the shade it disappeared. I can't describe how bright and sparkly the light was. It was like a ball of pixie dust! It is one of the strangest things I have seen in nature. I have since learned that this phenomenon is called a subsun. Apparently they are most commonly seen from airplanes and rarely from a location on the ground. I feel very lucky to have witnessed this event. Another explanation and other photos of this can be seen at http://www.atoptics.co.uk/fz188.htm
