Cubase 5 is an excellent tool for recording as long as you know what you want to do. Getting a good sound depends on your experience. When a person is new to recording, chances are you'll put too many effects on things, or too much reverb. Go for the natural sound of the instrument. Use condenser microphones to get an honest sound, so don't let a cheap microphone make your instrument sound like a cardboard box. Bring out the warm, rich tones and make subtle adjustments to other things. Automation is the second step to composing a song in a recording and having control over what instruments do even after a song has been recorded.
