Ok, now I *must* play Homeworld, are you happy now Internet ? Didn't you already took all my free time for playing such epic old awesome games that changed gaming forever ? Sheesh, I'll do it of course...
But this is the last time, for real this time, my backlog won't go beyond 200 entries !

@ignorantrodent I did indeed get here thanks to nerfnow, but even before klicking that link I KNEW what scene was coming...
It still sends shivers down my spine everytime.

@ignorantrodent I used to love Engie-tan, but then I took a tiny medic to the heart.

This is the mission where it glitched out on me. Not only did I manage to snag one of those frigates, but I managed to save all six Cryotrays. Unfortunately, the game refused to register the fact I'd saved the sixth one, and proceeded to tell me to 'save the CryoTrays'. I had nowhere to go, nothing to do, and that frigate to analyse. I had to reset something like 8 times. Still a beautiful game though. :D

@censuur12 I've seen very few games come anywhere near close to what that level in Homeworld inspired in me the first time. Hell, even subsequent playthroughs had me holding me breath as I waited for the scene to unfold.
It hasn't lessened with time, it hasn't become corny, and it most certainly has not become cliché; it was, is, and likely always shall be one of those moments of true gaming greatness that will stay with me until I'm put in the ground.

@spartanatreyu I pity your lack of experience...
if anything, its incredibly corny and cliche'd by now and has been outdone countless times

Dam fleet command y do you have to sound so emo? i mean you're races just got incinerated, your planet is on a fire storm, and all you ever knew was destroyed. But dude lighten up
The saddest moment in any part of game story telling history, The glowing embers, the debris of the scaffold, the trembling voice of sudden realisation.
"No one's left. Everything's gone. Kharak is burning."
The pieces start to fall together of what happened, then...
"The cryo-trays are under attack. Defend them"
The impulse, instinct and that sense of responsibility that the player experiences when sending everything they have to destroy those frigates has never been repeated in a game yet
