what are all the locations like "/usr/bin" so that program can be launched just by typing its name at the terminal ? :O

@timshapiro Watch it again; Gmanedit is the name of the program I'm installing. You'd substitute it for whatever the name of your program is. So if you look in Synaptic under the Installed Files tab for your program, and it shows a file at the location /usr/bin/avant, then you'd just type "avant" (without the quotes) into the 'command' field.

I know what you mean. I started using Ubuntu and Linux for the first time recently too.
I think we'll just have to wait it out and get used to using a new operating system.
as far as where the files are going just watch the vid that's what it's about if you mean why we have no control over where they go during installation? well that's something I ve been asking myself too.
the equivalent of .exe is useually an extension less file named after the app your using.

... I'm confused to..... i install thinkfan to lower my fan speed and i cant find it!!! :( and i have no gmanedit installed to my os!!!!!!!! plzz help.....

@michalislag Firstly, you should let your BIOS control your fan speed. If you go into your BIOS setup thingy, there will be an option for it.
Secondly, thinkfan is not a graphical program, so you don't create a launcher for it in your Applications menu.
Thirdly, 'gmanedit' was the example program that I used. You would substitute this for the name of the program you want to create a launcher for. But don't bother; just get your BIOS to manage fan speed for you.

how did you make the window burn when you hit close? I have tried and can't figure out how.

If you install "compizconfig-settings-manager" from the repositories and then run System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager, you will find it in the "Close Animation" tab of the "Animations" button. Click on "Glide 1" or whatever the first item is in the list, click Edit and change the animation to "Burn".
