@mediamuseX Many, I'm sure of it. We need to demand more from our justice system. There is no reason why we should tolerate the destruction of innocent people's lives simply because police are too lazy to do their jobs properly or too corrupt to care about right from wrong. We must always remain vigilant and use our own minds to review the details of these cases and ascertain when we are being lied to. The next time they need a patsy, it could be you or me.
@JanBee1122 yeah, i saw that pbs program. and after they had the real killer's admission and hid dna only, they still claimed those four men were guilty! it's all very disturbing and makes me wonder how many innocent people are in jail.
@mediamuseX Agreed! Both are very ominous, but for different reasons. Another disturbing case is that called "The Norfolk Four." Frontline did a cover story on these innocent men who all confessed to murder in the same case. It is a sad example of justice gone very, very wrong.
@JanBee1122 you're correct. they're two very different cases. they're just two equally chilling true crime books to me ('until you are dead' and 'in cold blood').
@mediamuseX Yes, except that, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock were in fact guilty of murder...Steven was innocent from the beginning. Confessions are often coerced out of people, a tactic used by police all the time when they want closure on a case. People have a mistaken sense that the police are always determined to "get the guy that did it" but that's just not so...what they want is someone charged and put away and they'll take the first weak, or easy mark they can get...Steven was that mark.
That, we don't know. But, he did make a statement to the police in the evening of June 11th, 1959, that was never revealed to the public. But, if you read the Supreme Court of Canada decision, 1966, you will see that Truscott made contradictions in his 1966 testimony and what he told the police in 1959 that couldn't be excused bc of time passed. The contradictions were too important. He did say other things that were too incredible to believe.
"You're nausea is more likely a result of your ignorance" Where can I read the original transcripts? I assume you have? How did the 'coroner' arrive at a time of death within a 15 minute window? I have spoken to many pathologists that tell me this isn't possible TODAY to fix such a tight window on the time of death. Pleas use monosyllabic words in the response, as I am both a "clown" and "ignorant."....
You're a clown. The judge in this latest appeal also ruled that a new trial was impossible because of the time delay (ie. dead witnesses) Truscott had previouly exhausted all his appeals and was turned down. You're nausea is more likely a result of your ignorance. Try reading the original transcripts of the trial instead of "pulp fiction" designed to sell books
You make a valid point. Unfortunately, we just may never know who killed Lynn Harper. I am sorry for the pain that Lynn's family must have suffered over the final release and exhoneration of Steven, but I know only too well how quick our law enforcement agencies are to pin so-called "evidence" on innocent people in order to close a case. It mistakenly gives the people in a community the sense that their police force is competent and in charge, even when it isn't as was clear in this case.

@JanBee1122 the book to me was as chilling as truman capote's 'in cold blood.'
