Shows the automatic dual-side play capability of the Pioneer CLD-2950 LaserDisc player. The laser unit is on a sledge that can be moved to the other (upper) side of the disc by a turning axis. At the same time, the disc needs to be stopped and spun in the other direction.

In the middle of the video the fast-forward function of the player was used that's why the head is moving rapidly.

  • @babayaga26 Sure there are several that technically rank above it but there are far, far more than rank way below it. It was released as a high end player which to my mind, it is. I rate the picture very highly. I would only suggest slight improvments in image quality with the players you note, though I've not seen them all in person. Note this is also a PAL player and in this region it IS one of the best.

  • Long time since I saw one of these. LD's with the top removed are always impressive, especially when the disc is braked from full speed ready for eject! Seems a complex mechanism on this one though.

  • @RetroRepair it is far from the best player you can get. Those ranking above it considerably is hldx9/x9, ld-s9, cld-r7g, cld-99, cld-97, cld-79/d704

  • @babayaga26 This is one of the best players you can get. It only lacks AC-3 out.

  • I've got a 2950 and got a disc jammed inside and when i press open/close it doesn't respond. Can anyone help?

  • @mnemo70: sorry, hope you didn't take it personally :) the cld-2950 is quite low-end and i always thought it to have a very poor video output. I'm a LD collector my self and have this player in my collection as well, though i use a cld-r7g my self :) still hope to get enough money to buy a hld-x9

  • @mnemo70 Hello there I see you have CLD-2950 with the lid off is it possible you can make another video a bit longer as I'm repairing my CLD-2950 and I need to see a close up view (in focus) around the middle of the CLD-2950 there is white plastic device that moves the laser left or right when playing side B. Its located to the left side of the top of the player on the laser mechanism assembly that moves up and down.

    Cheers

  • Their disks were too, they were the most likely to get "laser rot" in which the adhesive holding together the layers of the disk comes off.
