Permits? don't install the panels on the house! I've got 2,000 watts of panels on a shipping container on the farm, If and when I want I'll just wire it into the home as I please. Too much government!

@Cowcharge 72 cells in a 12volt panel.. I built a 36 cell panel for charging batteries..
still wasnt worth it, its the weatherproofing that kills ya in cost.
all the stuff to assemble a panel isnt..
ok, your not on a "plan" what will the company pay you per kilowatt, mine will pay me 8 cents.. yours will pay you less then you buy it for too..
home made panels arent part of any plans here anyway

@Me102288 1000 watt here is 0.11 cents to buy. so tell me how many years if would takes to pay it off...
$160 a panel you said? with a frame, weather proof glass and the seal kit to make it water proof?
thats aboute 1/4 what they cost :-\

@Cowcharge 1809.1/.9= 2010.1 DAYS to pay off each panel. Again, not including all the other parts of the system, and assuming you get full sun 6 hrs a day. My December electric bill was for 614kwh. 614/31=19.8kwh/day usage. 19.8kwh usage per day/.9kwh per day supplied per panel= 22 panels needed just to keep your batteries charged. Take a remedial math class.

@Me102288 Are you on acid? You must be to think that math comes anywhere near reality. (36x$1.50)+ 60 + 85= $199/panel to build. Which means that for every panel you build, you have to replace $199's worth of electricity before you start getting free power (not counting paying for the batteries, charge controller, wiring, roof mounts etc). $199/$.11=1809.1kwh-the amount of electricity you have to generate PER PANEL before they're paid off. 6 hrs/day (wildly optimistic)x 150 watts=900 wh or .9kwh

@Cowcharge 50watts. Wow what will you do with all that power. An electric kettle takes 2.000 watts. $10 per watt ? that seems like a fantastic deal.

Remember that a lot of diy,ers are fkn stupid and dangerous. This is why regulations exist. We might be competant engineers, but a lot of people with the very best intentions carry out simple projects so badly that they endanger not only themselves,but others,they are also to proud or stubborn to ask for a little help.

@Cowcharge READ.. I SAID 4 or 5, and no, I dont have that kinda room
you failed to read the website stating 1600 watts, not 50.
Permits? We don't need no stinking permits!

I'm a licensed gen contractor and this is a scare sell. A/C guys do it all the time. They start talking tech to impress/ scare the client into doing what they want. In a very convincing way this guy is presenting worst case scenario to sell his way.
