WHYY-TV's On Canvas features Miguel Zenón at The Painted Bride Art Center, on Wednesday April 21, 2010

Miguel Zenón was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and studied saxophone at the famed Escuela Libre de Música. Although he was exposed to jazz while in high school, it wasnt until he began his studies at the Berklee College of Music that his formal jazz training began.

Esta Plena, his latest release, creates a bridge between elements of jazz and plena music from Puerto Rico. Unanimously heralded as one of the best jazz releases of 2009 by The Village Voice, Chicago Tribune, and Jazz Times, it also received two Grammy nominations, for Best Latin Jazz Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo. Zenón performs at The Painted Bride Arts Center in the Old City section of Philadelphia.
