Jack Nicklaus is not the only one who promotes a one ball position, Ben Hogan said similar, and teaching methods seem to go in fashion cycles, but for the modern game Butch Harmon and David Leadbetter also maintain a single ball position not only gives you less to think about but gives consistency. Anyone not moving the weight properly through the swing will hit a bad shot, whatever method they use.
Tiger is great, but the equipment is very different nowadays. Jack was playing with wooden drivers, 1 irons and really inconsistent technology which makes his wins even more amazing.
haha it worked for him but he had a left hip replacement and has had back trouble since the 50's... I think the most consistent position is the middle and woods right of left heel and wedges at the right foot. Shawn Clement is great on this subject.
technology really has nothing to do with it, you can still go to the store and pick up a good set of musclebacks (not those disgusting sole-weighted-cavityback-malle ts-called golf clubs) and the woods are pretty much the same anyway except that the shaft is more flexible now and you have the exact same clubs they played with in the 70's, with a few improvements, but the biggest difference between now and back then is the ball doesnt spin nearly as much as it used to, dont believe me? ask tiger.
