@1919viola No apology necessary. I love when people are passionate about music. This piece is quite dissonant. Personally, I feel this piece does have a center of pitch, but the dissonances simply never get resolved, thus we never actually hear it. Ken Ueno has an awesome perspective on modern music and composition. He was a professor of mine at UC Berkeley for composition in my last year as an undergrad. I have much respect for him and his musical works. Thanks for your response.

@kjv146 anything that makes any kind of sound at all has tone. the term 'tonal' is misapplied and meaningless, and even if you did take it for what it means, ALL it means is that the music has some kind of pitch center. Atonal just means no pitch center. Dissonance has nothing to do with it; this is quite dissonant, by the way. sorry to rant, I'm not mad at anyone, I just get frustrated with attitudes toward modern music in general :/

I sang this with my group last year. The harmony is surprisingly easy, but what makes it difficult is the rhythm. It's notated in 4/4, but as you can tell from the video doesn't sound anything like that.

Ken was my teacher for about 2 semesters, and he seriously changed how I perceived music. Love, love his stuff. I feel like it's so much more than "contemporary classical," especially with his love of so many different styles of music.

I always imagined that there were at least 10 to 12 persons in the Ensemble..the fact that there are only four gentlemen, makes it even more amazing!!! Thanks very much for posting this video
