It's powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator fuelled by Plutonium-238. That particular isotope emits a lot of alpha particles and a lot of heat (to the point that it glows spontaneously), but not much in terms of more powerful radiation. The considerable heat is transformed into electricity in the generator, which is then used to charge two batteries that ensure a steady supply to all systems. The generator has a minimum theoretical life of 14 years.
