Eight channel Single Wire Multi-switch (SWM). Allows any transponder from any satellite input to be independently selected and distributed via one of eight designated SWM output frequency channels.
SWM 8 Mod can only run a total of 8 tuners, no more. A SWM 16 mod can only run up to 16 tuners, no more then that. 8 DVR's is 16 tuners, a SWM 16 mod would be required, you could not use a SWM 8 mod for that. As for spliters, you cannot exceed 16 decibels of signal loss. 2 way splitters are about 4 Db, 4 ways about 8Db, 8 ways are at max. You can have a 4 way followed with a max of two 2 ways, one four way behind another, an 8 way cannot be split again.
@mythril4 The video says it could be split up to 8 times and you say it could drive 16 tuners.. Meaning that I could drive up to 8 DVR receivers? Who many splitters could I stack in a line? I just moves to directv after 7 years of dishnetwork. The dude i´m working with just keeps telling me you will see each time i ask him something, and just talks about how he is the master installer of the company(Slap forehead).
That is a SWM module to convert legacy Ka/Ku LNB's to SWM, they come in SWM 8 and SWM 16, soon SWM 32. It is alot easier to use a SWM LNB then you don't need this switch unless you are using 16 tuners, 72.5, or a 95.
You don't not split the line before the receiver that is false, note the port 1 has a marking "SWM 2 or FTM", you only connect one wire period.
I have been trained by DirecTV on their equpipment constantly for 3 years now, there is nothing about that system I don't know
Incorrect information at 1:45 about having to split the line at the DVR. One wire into the DVR on the SWM1 port is all you need. The SWM-compatible DVRs internally split the signal to it's 2 tuners.
u dont have to use a legacy switch on every swim install only if some receivers are not compatible or cust wants 95 or 72.5 dish connected . and if ur doing an hddvr u dont have to put a spliter behind the receiver one line will do the job.
@mythril4 Thanks a lot bro.

@Markitos203
CONT...
The current modules are:
-The DirecTV SWM 8 tuner module
-The DirecTV SWM 16 tuner module
Signal loss not to exceed 16Db, splitters as follows:
- 2 way SWM splitter = 4 Db loss
- 4 way SWM splitter = 8 Db loss
- 8 way SWM splitter = 14 Db loss
