The date is October 27, 1947 and the Nat King Cole Trio finds a new guitar player for the group in Irving Ashby who replaces Oscar Moore. One of the songs selected for this recording session is a tune composed by Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt with lyrics by the great Gus Kahn, "Dream A Little Dream Of Me". The song was first recorded by the Ozzie Nelson Orchestra (Ozzie & Harriet fame) in 1931 with Ozzie doing the vocal. Perhaps the most famous recorded version, however, came in 1968 when the Mamas & Papas recorded it with Mama Cass doing a superb vocal on it.
