  • Now, that was a beautiful concert. Every part of it. Wish I had been there :(

  • They were both highly popular instruments for about 250 years. The one on the right is the Viola da Gamba (or Viole da Gambe in French), which means violin of the leg. It is the predecessor to the violin family and includes the "stant-up bass". It has frets and is tuned like a guitar. They also come in D. bass, bass, tenor, alto, treble, saprano, and descant.

    The other is a Theorbo. It is a bass lute, and is rarely played alone, without accompaniment. However, the few works there are, are great.
