Here is a beautiful song by Frankie Avalon from a famous movie of the same name, chosen to illustrate the beauty of the "mermaid" Esther Williams.
Esther Jane Williams (born in 1921 or 1922) was a United States competitive swimmer and movie star, famous for her musical films that featured elaborate performances with swimming and diving. She was born in Inglewood, California. She was enthusiastic about swimming in her youth. She was National AAU champion in the 100 meter freestyle. Williams went to Hollywood, where she quickly became a popular star of the 1940's and 1950's. Many of her films, such as "Million Dollar Mermaid" and "Jupiter's Darling", contained elaborately staged synchronized swimming scenes, obtained not without physical cost to the performer. Esther Williams retired from acting in the early 1960's and lives with her current husband in Beverly Hills.
Enjoy this trip to the bottom of the sea!

  • How did i get here? o.0

  • wow... wunderful...

  • Esther Williams was not just an MGM superstar, but she was a genre unto herself. Nobody else did this at the time, just like Sonja Henie on the ice, Esther combined music with swimming. She single handedly invented syncronised swimming as a result, before Esther, it was known as water ballet. Dearest Esther we all love you very much and god bless for 2010. XXXXXXXXXX

  • Qué linda Esther Williams, cómo la recordamos en la película Escuela de Sirenas junto al barítono colombiano Carlos Julio Ramírez. Fue una nadadora excelsa, increíble una adorable sirena !!!

  • For me she had the most beautiful face of all. Just something about her, the smile, the warmth. And I include all of the so-called classic beauties. The movies were hokey, but I can still see, for instance, in the dark at the Colonial Theatre in Augusta, ME, that underwater aquablue scene in Pagan Love Song with the music. I have that picture in my head. Those old theatres, the red velvet, brass rails, all gone.

  • Thanks johnxxx20000 :) She was part of the golden years of Hollywood and showed how athletic and beauty can go together.
