For any police position and to have the ability to make arrests you have to be post certified-- class a which is now 700+ hours of instruction. A basic academy is around 4 months long... shorter for lateral transfers at most departments. Gcso still has the C.O.P. program for citizens and you dont have to be post certified. These members have no power of arrest and dont carry weapons.

I think this is a great video. I have been interested in the GCSO reserve, but understand that you need to be POST certified first. Then you also go through another training program after that. I understand that GCSO has there own POST training also. I think there is a lot of interest in the community to be law enforcement. Just a little hard to attain, other agencies that I have looked into only require a HS diploma, and then you go to their training facility for 6 to 8 weeks.

When I started working as a dispatcher in 1989, there was four deputies & one supervisor for an eight hour shift. Now, unless it changed when they combined

the city/county dispatching, there were still four deputies & one supervisor for an eight hour shift. Calls for service are WAY up, but staffing is still sadly lacking.

I had to watch this twice. When it states that Greene County handles over 2X the number of incidents as Springfield Police, many will scoff at the statement as meaning overall numbers as I initially did. What the video is saying, is that PER OFFICER, the Sheriff's department handles 2X the number of incidents as the Springfield Police. I can tell you first hand this is true. The Sheriff's Department is so understaffed it is ridiculous. I don't know how they manage to do it all, but they do.

@TheGrizzledOne Thank you very much for the positive comments on the video. There was a very thorough and comprehensive study conducted that compared seven agencies in the region. I would like to clarify that there is no intent or effort to be dishonest about any numbers utilized as they were supplied by the compared agencies. The comment in the video regarding the handling of 2x as many incidents is followed the statement "Per Officer". I apologize that it is not more clear in the video.
