This was a fantastic battle.

Let's start by talking about the boss's attack pattern.
In his first form, all the main body will do is a rather weak physical attack, he can actually attack up to four times, but often skips turns, so it's rare to see the full four.
If you attack the main body in this form, the probes will counter with Twin Homing laser, which is instant death without shell.
The probes won't do anything on their own in this form.

After he switches to his second form (On his fifth turn) he'll use Corona which reduces the party's HP to 1.
The main body won't attack in this form at all and also won't counter if attacked. Both the probes will attack physically though, the left one twice, the right one once,(They never skip their turns) they will also counter with homing laser if attacked.
On the main body's third turn he'll use Megido Flame, which deals around 1550 points of magic damage and switch back to his first from.

Or in other words:

(Attack)
(Attack)
(Attack)
(Attack)
Form Change
Corona
Attack (L Probe)
Attack (R Probe)
Attack (L Probe)
Megido Flame/Form Change
Repeat

His first form is harmless as long as you don't attack, you don't have to worry about healing either, as he will use Corona soon enough anyway.
So we use this time to buff up, protect shell and haste are all required if you want to live through the second form. Triple isn't necessary, but if you want to end the battle before hell freezes over using it isn't a bad idea. You do need to execute all of the commands pretty fast though, or else it will mess up the timing on the second and following cycles.

As soon as he changes to his second form, you can get an attack in before Corona and if you're fast enough,(And are hasted) be able to heal before the left probe attacks.
After that you get 3 turns before he uses Megido Flame.(Again, only if you're fast enough) If you have protect up, you can ignore the physical attacks from the probes now, what you can't ignore however, is Megido Flame.
It deals around 1550 points of damage and the only way to survive it is by having shell up and defending, which in combination reduces the damage to 1/4.
You want to heal up asap after this.
If you were fast enough, all the statuses will wear off just in time for you to get them back up before he switches to his second form again.

I'm using Thundaga to attack as it has a slight edge over Flare due to the boss's x2 weakness to lightning, multi-targeting spells are out of the question because the probes will counter them with homing lasers and you can't afford to lose HP before Megido Flame.

To sum it up:
A great battle that relies on a solid strategy and fast execution, with no luck involved whatsoever.

So that's how that is.
